Gwen Thomas

Health Care Assistant, Bradford-on-Avon Health Centre

I used to be a Health Care Assistant in a geriatric hospital but left to become a foster carer. However, I became rather disillusioned with that as I didn’t get the support I felt I needed, so when the opportunity arose to become a Health Care Assistant in a general practice setting, I jumped at it.

Since I have been in this post, the GPs have encouraged me to undertake an 18 month apprenticeship at Wiltshire College so I am in the process of doing that. I feel it is important to take opportunities to develop as this will make sure I provide better practice in the longer term, and it is also a stepping stone to further my career, possibly as a Nurse Associate. A lot of my time in this role is working within our Leg Clubs in Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham.
