Pharmacy Technician, Newbridge Surgery

This is my first experience in general practice and I’m very excited that now the role of a technician is diversifying from the traditional dispensary tasks.

Prior to my current role, I worked in a community pharmacy for 12 years where I undertook vocational training to qualify as a Registered Accuracy Checking Technician.

I’m really enjoying the variety of working with the five surgeries in the Minerva group – every day brings something different; day-to-day work consists of answering prescribing queries from GPs, District Nurses and local pharmacies and assisting with prescription issuing.

In between this, I particularly enjoy the work around medicines optimisation and the more clinical aspects, which you only get a glimpse of in a community setting.

Taking the leap from a community dispensary into general practice was a big change, but I’m so glad I did it – it really has enabled me to use my skills and knowledge in a completely different way and I look forward to seeing how the role develops over time.
