Management of Chronic Pain and Deprescribing for GPs & AHPs

Introduction
NICE guidance on the management of chronic pain and on deprescribing drugs of dependency have brought the issues of both pain and prescription painkiller dependency to the fore. The PCN prescribing incentive scheme also makes it clear that the expectation is that the vast majority of these drugs are tapered off where appropriate.
This session is designed for GPs, AHPs, and prescribers, focusing on the practical ‘how to’ of supporting patients with chronic pain management and safe deprescribing (recognising that these conversations are often challenging).
Aims
To support clinicians in addressing the challenges of managing chronic pain while safely reducing long-term reliance on prescription painkillers.
Objectives
- Understand the scale of the problem and the potential adverse effects of long term opioid therapy.
