This is one day update for all Nurse Prescribers, who are looking for a training/update session in line with the NMC Revalidation.  The day starts with a short quiz to see how much Nurse Prescribers remember from their training and then the day consists of:

Learning Outcomes

  • To provide non-medical prescribers with an update in regards to national and local prescribing guidelines and relevant medicines optimisation topics and issues
  • Describe the Legal and Professional requirements of Non-Medical prescribing
  • Outline the importance of accountability
  • Provide an update on current prescribing issues in relation to prescribing safely, understanding drug interactions and side effects, as well as report adverse drug reactions.
  • Provide an update in prescribing for children, elderly patients and in pregnancy
  • Provide an update about antibiotic resistance, when to prescribe and the challenges that surround antibiotic prescribing
  • Identify the importance of Continued Professional Development in relation to prescribing and the importance of Liability and Insurance

Trainer Information

Dan Chilvers BSc (Adult Nursing); MSc ACP; NMP V300; PG Cert Minor Illness & Minor Injury; PG Cert Clinical Leadership (Mary Seacole); PG Cert Emergency Nursing; FAA Lev 3 Education and Training.

Dan first qualified as an Adult Nurse in 2003 with his first role working in the Trauma Unit in Oxford before moving to A&E in 2006. This provided an opportunity to learn a whole host of skills providing Emergency care to children and adults before Dan saw an opportunity to join the ambulance service as an Ambulance Nurse in 2009.  Dan’s time in the ambulance service was dedicated to delivering emergency care in the form of a role like a paramedic, providing pre-hospital emergency care to all ages. The roles changed during his service to include being a team leader and managing major incidents, providing training opportunities for new equipment and later in his service becoming a Specialist Practitioner.  His role as a Specialist Practitioner opened up an opportunity to join Primary Care in 2017 where he took up a role as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in a GP surgery.  He has been a Non-Medical Prescriber since 2018 and currently works as a now ACP in same day urgent care in a GP surgery treating all age ranges and conditions while also supporting GP’s with ward rounds in local Nursing Homes.  When work isn’t calling, Dan has a busy growing family and enjoys music, am dram, running, and retro gaming.
