SUMMARY:Introduction to Flu Vaccines for HCAs
DESCRIPTION:This one day live-online\, instructor led training is suitable for any HCAs new to flu. \nIt is recommended that only experienced HCAs take on a role in administering vaccines. It is expected that these HCAs will have achieved education and training to Level Three of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) or equivalent and that they would be working at Level Three or above of the NHS Career Framework. \nUKHSA_National_Minimum_Standards_for_immunisation_training_2025.pdf \nThis interactive course will provide all the resources and tools HCAs will need to deliver influenza immunisations to both adults and children as part of NHS public health programme. \nAims\nDelegates will receive theoretical knowledge of the influenza and nasal flu programmes alongside a comprehensive workbook with competencies to be signed off by a mentor in Practice. The HCA will require a period of supervised practice\, and review of practice annually including annual CPR and anaphylaxis updates. It is recommended that only HCAs who have achieved education and training to Level Three of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) or equivalent in England and Wales with at least 2 years’ experience as a HCA should be considered for training in vaccine administration. \nObjectives\nUpon completion of the course and workbook\, the HCA will have an awareness of the roles and responsibility associated with administration of the influenza vaccination. \nContent\n\nWhat is flu – how the immune system works\, epidemics and pandemics\nUndertaking a risk assessment of the patient prior to immunisation\nConsent and documentation\nLegal implications of advanced practice\nKnowledge of NMC guides to medicine management and patient specific directives\nThis seasons flu campaign; including an over view of recent changes to the programme\nSafe handling and storage of vaccination including infection control\nPractical demonstration to include consultation and procedure\n\nPlease note: The responsibility for the delivery of healthcare is always the responsibility of the Partners\, they must ensure that their staff are competent to safely deliver care to their patients.  If anything untoward were to happen to a patient\, the Partners as employers have to be confident that the training they have provided to their staff is sufficient.  Clinical supervision and mentoring is also a really important element for all staff when they are learning a new task. \nPrevious Delegate Feedback\n“Thank you very much for a great session\, I found it very informative and look forward to putting the information into practice” \nThis event is not being recorded
