DESCRIPTION:Registration 09:15 sessions run 09:30 to 16:00 on each day.\nThis is a multi-day (non-consecutive) event\n\nDay 1 – Tuesday 21st April 2026 – Face-to-Face at the Hamworthy Club.\nDay 2 – Tuesday 28th April 2026 – Over Zoom\nDay 3 – Tuesday 5th May 2026 – Over Zoom\n\nPlease ensure you are able to attend all the above dates before booking. \nIntroduction\nThis is a three-day introduction to asthma & chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for healthcare professionals (Registered and Associate Nurses\, Paramedics\, Pharmacists\, Physiotherapists & Physicians Associates). This course is also suitable for level 3 or above HCA/HCSW who are supported by a Registered healthcare professional with appropriate respiratory training and experience. \nAims\n\nProvide an overview of the current understanding of asthma and COPD and an introduction to the monitoring and treatment available for both.\nProvide a knowledge base for HCP’s new to asthma and COPD to enhance knowledge and skills relevant for general practice.\nProvide an overview of the key differences in the signs and symptoms of asthma and COPD and an awareness of differential diagnosis.\nIntroduction to risk identification and discuss appropriate escalation.\nCommence a pathway of respiratory education and equip candidate to continue through self-directed and formal learning in line with Fit to Care: Key Knowledge\, Skills and Training for Clinicians Fit to Care | Primary Care Respiratory Society (pcrs-uk.org)\nEncourage self-directed learning\n\nObjectives\nOn completion of the three course days\, by undertaking additional self-directed learning and with peer/assessor support in practice\, healthcare professionals should: \n\nHave increased understanding of the disease processes and person impact\nHave awareness of differential diagnosis\nHave improved awareness of history taking in respiratory disease.\nAppreciate the complexity of making a diagnosis of asthma or COPD.\nHave the ability to use\, teach and understand peak flow readings & monitoring.\nHave awareness of spirometry in the diagnosis and monitoring of respiratory disease (Content not sufficient for education towards accreditation)\nHave awareness of the current guidelines for asthma and COPD.\nHave knowledge of commonly used inhaler devices\, spacers and supporting tools to work towards a robust inhaler technique check.\nHave improved understanding of asthma and COPD exacerbation identification and assessment.\nSupport patient education and facilitate steps towards self-management to optimise concordance and patient safety.\nBe working towards undertaking a basic monitoring patient review.\nAppreciate effective consultation in a time limited environment.\n\nPrevious Delegate Feedback\n“I loved the way the information was delivered so clearly “

SUMMARY:Introduction to Chronic Kidney Disease for Practice Nurses - 2 Half Days
DESCRIPTION:This is a multi-day (non-consecutive) event: \n\nDay 1 – Tuesday 28 April 2026\nDay 2 – Tuesday 05 May 2026\n\nYou are required to attend both sessions in order to be awarded your certificate of attendance and access to the training materials.  Please ensure you are able to attend all the above dates before booking. \nIntroduction\nThis live-online\, instructor led session is aimed at Nurses and AHPs who are already familiar with CKD.  CKD is an important condition in itself\, and also as a marker of cardiovascular risk.  In these 2 sessions\, we consider the function of the kidneys in health and review what goes wrong in CKD.  We address the risk factors for CKD\, how the diagnosis is made and how to explain the diagnosis to the patient.  We then go on to address the lifestyle interventions and pharmacological management which can improve outcomes.  We also discuss potential complications of CKD and how to carry out an effective annual review\, including recognition of when to refer on. \nAims\nThe aims of this live-online\, instructor led session are to: \n\nenhance the knowledge and clinical skills of Nurses and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) with existing familiarity in chronic kidney disease (CKD).\ndeepen understanding of kidney function in health and disease\, and how CKD acts as both a condition in itself and a marker of cardiovascular risk.\nequip participants with the confidence to diagnose\, explain\, manage\, and review CKD effectively in clinical practice.\n\nContent\nDay 1 \n\nPhysiology and pathophysiology\nRisk factors\nDiagnosis\nLifestyle interventions\n\nDay 2 \n\nPharmacological interventions\nComplications of CKD\nWhen to refer on\nCarrying out an effective annual review\n\nObjectives\nBy the end of the session\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain the normal function of the kidneys and the pathophysiological changes that occur in CKD.\nIdentify key risk factors for CKD and describe how the diagnosis is made.\nCommunicate the diagnosis of CKD clearly and sensitively to patients.\nDiscuss evidence-based lifestyle interventions and pharmacological management options that improve outcomes.\nRecognise common complications of CKD and when referral to specialist care is appropriate.\nConduct an effective annual CKD review\, incorporating clinical assessment\, patient education\, and safety-netting.\n\nPrevious Delegate Feedback\n“Very enjoyable and well presented training.
